An Interview with Danielle Atkinson of Mothering Justice Action Fund.
This week, we welcome to the We Can Do Better podcast Danielle Atkinson, executive director of the Mothering Justice Action Fund.
Mothering Justice Action Fund activates the collective power of mothers to advance policies that improve the well-being of mothers, caregivers, and families. They have led successful statewide campaigns to raise the minimum wage and pass laws to ensure paid sick time for workers.
But, as Danielle tells us, the Medicaid and SNAP cuts dedicated by the Trump and Congressional legislation passed last year will move us in the wrong direction, using red-tape requirements to kick millions of Americans off health insurance and block their access to food help. (We have written about the toxic impact of red-tape work requirements here .)
So Mothering Justice Action Fund is actively working for a better future, mobilizing for the upcoming elections and beyond. Danielle and her team of mothers work with the Congressional Mamas’ Caucus and others to adopt policies that prioritize caregivers.
Those policies benefit us all, Danielle tells us, by setting the stage for healthier, happier, more just communities. As the show name says, we can definitely do better.
